I have a borrowed ebook that does allow for printing but not much else that I would like to retain some of the information on (a few chapters). I tried printing using DoPDF, but the result is a very large PDF file size & the information on the pages is treated as images, not text so it is not search-able. Is there any solution to print & retain the text as text?

What format is the ebook in? Maybe there's a way to extract the pages without printing to dopdf directly from the ebook, as the ebook might have been protected.

The file claims to be an adobe acrobat document, but I can not open it in acrobat on my computer, only with Adobe digital Editions.

I'm afraid I can't help you, since adobe digital editions is actually an ebook reader based on Flash with its own DRM protection system, so they send the information as an image instead of text for printing, most likely to prohibit circumventing the DRM protection.
