Does this happen only to her? Can you send a document with these embeded fonts to inf[]dopdf.com so we'd look at it too? doPDF supports truetype and opentype fonts, so it shouldn't be any problems.

I create a monthly download of scrapbooking prompts on my blog and recently reworked the format. I found doPDF and was SO HAPPY because I could embed the fonts (I had a couple 'fancier' fonts that I used). Everything worked fine in my tests, but now I have a user who says that the majority of the text in her document is completely missing!

I used the following fonts:
Bleeding Cowboys (title)
Poor Richard (headings)
Calibri (body)

Bleeding Cowboys and Poor Richard are both TT fonts...but Calibri is open-type. Is that the problem??

The fonts are Palatino (not Linotype) and Geneva. The problem is that, even if they're on my PC somewhere, Publisher doesn't think they are. I've looked through the fonts folder a few times and run a search and can't find them. I don't believe it's the printer thing, b/c they worked just fine before I installed doPDF, and they converted over to the PDF perfectly. The PDF printed at Kinkos, and here, with no trouble, so that part works great! It just rendered my original file useless..

I wish I could say with any certainty that it was something else I did (9 times out of 10, it's user error, right?), but converting it to PDF was the last thing I did before I closed Publisher. Tried to reopen it to make a change a few minutes later, and the fonts were missing. lol. And I mean missing in the sense that an error box pops up and tells me I need to substitute fonts for the missing Palatino and Geneva fonts.

If doPDF doesn't move them, I'm out of ideas. Maybe I'll just reinstall Office.

dopdf doesn't move or delete fonts from your system. Do you remeber what fonts you used?

In Windows' fonts folder the name of the font file might be misleading, maybe that's why they don't show. As for showing up in Office, see this http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/NoFonts.htm

I used doPDF to convert a Microsoft Publisher (2003) document to a PDF, and I checked the "embed fonts" box. Now, when I try to open the original Publisher document, it tells me my fonts are missing. They don't show up on the fonts list for other Office programs, and they're not in the Windows fonts folder either. This might be a stupid question but, where did they go? I'd like them back..

Thanks.

doPDF version 6.2 will be released later this week and it includes an option to embed fonts. Apologies to those that have been waiting for this for a long time, but there were other things to be taken care of first.

@David Boyd - sorry you lost money and I won't get into an argue over who's right or not, but sending us an email to say that dopdf is "garbage" or "stupid program" it's not very nice, to say the least. Remember afterall that we develop and distribute doPDF for free.

[Update] Starting with version 6.2, doPDF now includes a font embedding option.

I don't know about other users DBoydNL... But GEEZ... you appear to be complaining about a program you paid $0.00 for???? I think that if you believe you were Hoodwinked by this FREE software... Like... WHO IS REALLY TO BLAME???

Spend a few more minutes of your time and go find another FREE PDF generator (they are out there) and use it...

Besides, if you are spending 63 Euros on Printing costs, why not shell out some money for a COMMERCIAL PAID FOR PACKAGE.. Now, if that does not function as advertised, perhaps then you might have a right to complain.

Yes this is a multipost. That's just how ticked off I am at being hoodwinked by your software.

Huh? You cannot, may not, ought not be permitted to call your product a PDF printer, when the resulting PDF depends on the fonts to be resident on the computer. The whole point of using PDF's is to get away from the fonts story. I just sent two PDF to the printer and had hundreds of copy's made only to discover when I picked them up that my "fancy" fonts had been substituted with "normal" ones. Will you pay for the €63 in printing cost that I just lost out on?

DoPDF does not do what a PDF printer is supposed to do, and what other PDF printers routinely do. Why in the world not? Your product should be removed from the market immediately, or at the very least you need to put a large disclaimer on your site and in the program, that explains to the unsuspecting user that the program does not work properly.

I noticed on the forum that folks have been asking for this idiotic problem to be corrected for a while now. The only thing I read in response is: "next release" and "not yet". This is completely unacceptable. Put me on a list of users who need to be notified when you fix your program so it works as it should. In the mean time I cannot use your program. If no fix is forthcoming, we need to flood forums and user groups worldwide with warnings against using your program.

Hi,
doPDF does not embed fonts so if the font used to create the PDF is not found on the recipient's computer, it will be substituted with another one.

Thank you for the files. I don't know what happens, I have converted the file you sent me and there were no problems in converting your publisher file to PDF with doPDF (the Univers fonts get converted and are shown). The only difference I see is you're using version 6.1.265 and I'm using 6.1.267, so you might want to try installing the new version from here http://www.dopdf.com/download/setup/dopdf.exe
Also I'm using Publisher 2003, though I don't think the version could make a difference.

Anyway, try printing from the new version and if it doesn't work either I don't know how I could help, so you might want to consider using another font instead of Univers.
