I guess the file not recognized error shows up when you're trying to open the generated pdf file? If this is the case, it might be that dopdf didn't install correctly, so you'll have to check what size the resulting pdf has - if it's 0 then something went wrong and you'll need to reinstall dopdf.

If it doesn't show in the list of printers when you click File-Print, this means that probably it wasn't installed correctly, so you'd have to follow the steps mentioned here to see if this solves it: http://www.dopdf.com/forum/topic/dopdf-does-not-appear-in-the-printers-list-after-installation

Greetings,

I have both CS 3 and Reader 8 installed. When I use doPDF, the resulting file opens in Acrobat instead of Reader despite the fact that I have my system set to open .PDF files with Reader (Acrobat and the other components of CS3 take much longer to load).

Can you please advise how I can get the files created by doPDF to open in Reader rather than Acrobat?

Hi, it cannot embed subsets only. The only solution I see is to create it without embedded fonts and ensure that the recipient has those used fonts (or you could send the font separately).

I recently downloaded doPDF to convert a file from Microsoft Word 2007.
The document I created was using white text on an entirely black background, however when I converted it to .pdf the background colour became white again, which means you can no longer read the text.

How do I ensure that the background colour carries over into the .pdf document?

I need serious help. I need to keep my pdf documents under 2 MB. For instance, I created a word document that had pictures in it. When I was done, the document was .98 MB, I opened up the print option and chose doPDF v 6. It converted over to pdf, but shot the file size up to 2.15 MB. I compressed all of the pictures down before I even placed them in the document, so that isn't the problem. Help!

Sorry, you can't. doPDF creates PDF 1.4 compatible pdfs, which should work just fine for Adobe v5.x or higher.

I don't see why you would need to have it compatible with Adobe Reader 3, given that they're now at version 9 and is a free product.

The page settings vary depending on which application you print from. For instance, if you're printing from notepad, if you change the setting properties for dopdf through the notepad interface to 17x22, then everytime you'll print from that instance of notepad it will remember this size; however, if you close and re-open notepad it will rever to the predefined. Same when printing from word, if you set it once and then (without restarting word) print to it, the custom size will be remembered, otherwise reverted to the default one.

The best way to handle this is to set the page size directly in the application you print from, as dopdf will first use that page size and after that try to overwrite it (if you chose so).

The ebook is in some sort of proporiey Adobe pdf format - I get a <>.pdf file but I cannot open it in Adobe reader. I need to open it in the Digital Editions tool only.
With regards to printing, there is no print option in the tool. Clicking on the print icon in that tool brings up the printers window where I can select a printer to use.

I have some screen shots of how the ebook page looks like vs how the dopdf output at 100% and 150% scaling look like. How do I add them to this post?

Isn't the ebook in a pdf format? If it's in pdf you could open it with adobe reader. However if it's a proprietary format that's not possible. I didn't use the digital editions reader, so if it doesn't have a Print Setup option or something similar then it must not be configurable.
In dopdf you can set the paper size when printing right from the page properties window:
When I click on print from the app, it brings up a dialog box where I select the doPDF printer. The doPDF page properties also does not have anything to change the printed image size.

I see a problem when printing eBooks to a doPDF printer. The resulting pdf file has a lot of white space on all sides of the text ad hence it appears to be much smaller than the original size as seen in the eBook. Does doPDF do a size reduction of the incoming data? Is there an option to turn this off? Can doPDF by default 'fit the text' onto the Letter size page when creating a pdf file?

do you want to have the pdfs automatically sent via email after they're created? or you are simply asking how to send an attachment via the email? If it's the first question, doPDF cannot send the PDF automatically after it's created. If it's the second question, once the PDF is created and saved (preferably on your desktop for easier handling) you can compose an email and either use the Insert-Attachment option in the email itself, or simply drag-and-drop the pdf from your desktop into the body of the email to have it attached.
