I'm a dotnet developer looking for a way to send pdfs that I generate to a physical printer without using acrobat or some other pdf reader.

I'm a big fan of doPDF, but is there a product that will allow me to to this? I know you guys have novaPDF, will it do this? Or is there some other product out there?

Currently I send the file to the printer byte by byte, but this only works if the printer supports pdfs printing directly, and it's quite slow.

Hi, regarding the size of the PDF, try unchecking the option "Embed fonts" when saving the PDF. If you already have done that, make sure the images are resized before you place them in your document as detailed http://www.dopdf.com/forum/topic/keeping-file-size-down

This should result in a lower size pdf.

I've just installed doPDF. Cool. Fast, and converts what Adobe can't do (like a 100MB Word)

The things I would like to point out is that the PDF from Adobe (after splitting the DOC and creating split PDFs and joining) is 4MB in size. doPDF does a >30MB file with 300 DPI and 14MB with 72 DPI. Both files have really hard JPEG compression.

It would be cool if the images can be compressed in PNG (or if PDF doesn't allow that) in some other format (GIFlike?) or JPEG whatever is smaller or preserves the quality better.

Compressing a "screenshot" for example is lossless with PNG and smaller than with JPEG but an outdoor picture is smaller with JPEG and maybe has non-perceptible loss.

The other awful thing is that the watermark ("Draft" 60 degrees angle) on the document I've compressed seems to be saved as a picture, and might take some space.

You are not allowed to sell dopdf as a separate program or charge users for downloading/using dopdf.

However in your case it seems that you want to distribute dopdf installer on the cd where your commercial product is placed too, so yes you are allowed to distribute it as long as you don't alter the installer in any way.

Additionally you might want to include on your website a link to dopdf where your users could get the updated version. Again, this is optional not mandatory. You can share here the name of the application if you want (or via info@dopdf.com) if it's not something you want to keep private.

Also, does it occur from any application or only from a specific program? For instance try printing from Notepad or Word too and see if it creates it.

These discounts are valid for version 2010 of the above programs too, which were recently released. According to their latest press release:

RegistryBooster is an automatic, powerful and comprehensive application for improving PC performance, stability and general health. Originally launched in 2006, the 2010 version of the software has been published, with some major improvements and additional features.

The 2010 release is a major upgrade and includes the following improvements and developments:

5 different language options – English, French, German, Italian, Spanish.

Compliant with Microsoft Windows 7, Vista and XP

32 and 64-bit compatibility

Smaller and faster download /install. Smaller file size and improved server performance have improved download time.

Enhanced, deeper and faster scan performance. New development of the scanning engine means that scans are more thorough and efficient than those performed by previous versions of the software.

Improved, easier-to-use GUI. Based on the results of usability testing, the functionality within the GUI has been improved enabling users to understand the features better. Registry categories have been split into 3 major segments, with errors now being displayed by segment and category. This interface upgrade means that users can see, at-a-glance and with greater understanding, where any problems may lie.

Quicker backup and restore procedure. Backups are now more compact, backing up only information required to revert to the previous state of the registry.

New "Damaged Level" feature. This new feature indicates Uniblue's assessment of the potential damage caused by registry errors to a PC’s general stability and performance. Rated on a scale from "low" to "high", a low damage level indicates that a PC is healthy, while a high damage level shows that the computer is at serious risk of performance loss due to registry impairment.

Johan Malmberg, Uniblue’s CVO is excited by the new version and added, "Since its launch in 2006, RegistryBooster has gone from strength to strength. We’re confident that the improvements in the 2010 version will give the PC user an even better experience with the much improved, simple-to-use interface, faster download, install and scanning times and a significantly upgraded backend. Windows 7, 32 and 64-bit compatibility combined with the availability of several language options, means that many more computer users globally can benefit from the utility“.

any ideas on why this is happening to me and what i can do so i can save AND view it as a pdf?

thanks.

When using the DO PDF printer, the Save PDF File dialog box comes up behind open windows. If the open windows are maximized, I can't even tell it is there. Can it be set to come up on top of all other open windows? It would save a couple clicks getting to it. I love this program, I never print out receipts any more, I print them in pdf. Thanks so much for making this available, especially for free!

No one said that subsets cannot be supported, just that they'll be in a future version. In fact this feature will be included in dopdf 7 which should be released in november or early december.

Right now if you want to reduce the size of the pdf you can choose not to embed the fonts.

In a future version of doPDF we'll embed by default all used font subsets.

This is a quote of yourself:
http://www.dopdf.com/forum/topic/which-fonts-are-supported#post-309

So why is it that subsets are not to be/cannot be supported all of a sudden? In my opinion it makes doPDF completely useless, as a 182KB PDF-file with some text becomes a 2.99MB file when fonts are embedded (whereas if I create the same file with subset of fonts embedded in OpenOffice, the file is only 81KB).

Printing a searchable pdf to dopdf will result in a non-searchable pdf. One solution would be to copy/paste the text into a new word document for instance and convert that directly with dopdf. However, this might be a lenghty process if the document has quite some text. If I'm not mistaken Adobe Reader (the free one) has an option that once the pdf is opened you can Save As Text, so you might look into doing that to see what it generates and convert the resulting file.

That's right, on Vista it doesn't suggest the folder where the document was opened from. We'll look into that, but you can use the Always use this folder option to force printing to a specific folder.

After some more research I found that I probably need NovaPDF for this...

I would like some help, however, with deciding which version I need. What I would like to do is insert a .docx and have NovaPDF generate the .pdf for me in the exact way DoPDF does this now.

Thanks!

No, I'm sorry I'm not being clear. Everything about the PDF converts. It looks perfect. The only thing I can't do is search, which is very important to me. Is there any additional information I can provide?

I am able to cut and paste the original...

Hi, would you consider changing the interface so the target folder is in a separate input box from the filename? I don't know about you, but I always change the suggested filename to something more meaningful and it's such a pain to move the cursor to the start of the filename, after the backslash of the path. Thanks.
