I don't know if this bug was fixed.

Windows Vista x64, SP1

Several times now, when I have gone to print, it looked like nothing was happening. I realized that the Save As prompt was behind all other windows, and I had to Alt-Tab to get to it.

It didn't appear on the Task Bar, and it obviously didn't pop up in front of the application I was printing from.

Is this a known issue? Has it been fixed already?
Having the Save As dialog appear on the Task Bar or having it make sure it is the top-most window would help.

If you have a multipage document you are printing to doPDF, it will create a multipage PDF file so if you want to have a resulting PDF file with only one page you'll need to make the original text fit on one page only in the original document, as you cannot post-process the pdf once it was created.

If it still didn't work after a restart, you should start the print spooler service (and make sure is set to automatic start, not manual) as instructed here - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc781034.aspx

does this happen only with dopdf, or is it happening with other printers you are using from your computer? dopdf has a printing quality resolution (on its Printing Preferences-Page, there's a Graphic section where by default the resolution is set to 300dpi), but that shouldn't affect the text in such a manner so that's barely visible, so i'm wondering if it isn't something you changed in your global printing preferences.

Yes this is a multipost. That's just how ticked off I am at being hoodwinked by your software.

Huh? You cannot, may not, ought not be permitted to call your product a PDF printer, when the resulting PDF depends on the fonts to be resident on the computer. The whole point of using PDF's is to get away from the fonts story. I just sent two PDF to the printer and had hundreds of copy's made only to discover when I picked them up that my "fancy" fonts had been substituted with "normal" ones. Will you pay for the €63 in printing cost that I just lost out on?

DoPDF does not do what a PDF printer is supposed to do, and what other PDF printers routinely do. Why in the world not? Your product should be removed from the market immediately, or at the very least you need to put a large disclaimer on your site and in the program, that explains to the unsuspecting user that the program does not work properly.

I noticed on the forum that folks have been asking for this idiotic problem to be corrected for a while now. The only thing I read in response is: "next release" and "not yet". This is completely unacceptable. Put me on a list of users who need to be notified when you fix your program so it works as it should. In the mean time I cannot use your program. If no fix is forthcoming, we need to flood forums and user groups worldwide with warnings against using your program.

I found a way to fix the problem if you are using Vista, like I was. Apparently, because I am using an older printer, there indeed was a compatibility issue with Vista and it had nothing to do with doPDF. Here's the solution that worked for me:

Installing a Network Printer in Vista:

1) Hard wire the printer to the Vista "client" PC or laptop, as though it were to be used with that computer, and install it. This ensures that it has all the necessary software/drivers on board. (This step is important for this fix to work)

2) Reconnect it to the "host" PC and, in its Properties, set it as "shared". Make a note of both the host PC's "Computer Name" and the printer's "Share Name".

3) In the Vista "client" PC, launch the "Add a Printer" wizard and select the "Add a local printer" option. This automatically opens a new dialog box in which to select the Port.

4) Click the "Create a new port" radio button and leave the drop-down menu options on the default of "Local Port". Click Next.

5) A small box opens in which to enter the Port Name. Type in the path to the "shared" printer in the host PC using the format \\computername\sharename where computername and sharename are the details you noted in (2) above.

6) Select the Printer driver from the list provided, which should include the driver you originally installed, otherwise use the "Have Disk" button to install the correct Vista driver if it is not in the list. It is essential that a Vista-compatible driver for your printer is used. Click Next. If you get a dialog box that tells you "Windows detected that a driver is already installed for this printer", click "Replace the current driver"

7) Give the printer a name and choose whether to set it as the default. Click Next.

8) Print a test page to verify functionality and then click Finish.

I am having this same problem except that my print spooler service is running (I even restarted the service with no change). I recently purchased a new computer and I used doPDF on my old Windows XP system without any problems so I decided to install it on my new one. My new system uses Vista, so I wonder if there's a compatibility issue. I print over a network with no success after installing doPDF. Also, I do not get any error messages, I print, it sends, but nothing comes out of the printer. Any suggestions would be welcome. In the mean time, I will uninstall doPDF and see what happens. Thanks.

I downloaded DoPdf and the files convert to PDF.
however, now my laptop will not print to any of my printers either connected directly to my hp color laser jet 2600n or thru my wireless network.
when i open my printers and faxes file and click on properties on my hp2600n, i get a message that the print spooler service is not running.
if i try to do a normal print of a word doc to my printer i now get a message that says the printer is not set up. i can remove and reload the hp 2600n but it will not correct the problem. seems the DoPdf download did something to my other print drivers?

Hello, I am converting a MS Word doc to pdf using the doPDF printer. In my MS Word file I have my author name set to my name, when the pdf file opens it is using my user profile name "sunshine"... I have changed my profile name to my name, checked the MS Word Doc and the author name was correct, restarted the pc with the new user profile name and still I get the same result - the wrong author name appears in the PDF document file. I only have the reader - therefore I can't change the information from inside Acrobat. Why does it keep resetting the Author name and how do I fix this?

Hi, is it possible to send us that word 2007 document to info[at]dopdf[dot]com so we could troubleshoot it with the latest version? If there's an error in version 6 we'd like to fix it, but in here we had no problems printing from word 2007. Thank you.

Running out of toner? You mean the output has a low quality (you barely see the text)?
Have you tried printing a pdf from a program like notepad to see how the text comes out?

I purged everything to dowith dopdf and softland from the registry and disk folders (including windows) - rebooted - installed 6.1.281 and it continues to fail. It fails on Word documents with bullet items. Sometimes it changes the bullets to some other symbol, sometimes it stops output at the first bullet, sometimes pdf reader gives an error message saying "abcdef+symbol?? font invalid".

I unstalled/purged all dopdf, installed 5.3.243 and everything works find again.

Is there a way to turn off the caching in the save pdf dialog? The dialog remembers every directory it sees, even when the directory no longer exists. Further, if a directory is renamed, it shows both the old and new directory. It also seems to be running slower and slower due to this problem.

I'm running vista.

Thanks.

I have been using doPDF version 5 for some time with no problems. I ignored the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" philosophy and decided to upgrade to version 6. Now it's broke!

I uninstalled version 5, and installed version 6.1 (downloaded yesterday). Now when I attempt to create a PDF from Word 2007 that worked fine on 5 yesterday, I only get about 25% of the page, and the rest is blank. I uninstalled 6 and reinstalled, then rebooted to refresh the driver. I'm using Vista X64.

What am I doing wrong?
