I'm using Acrobat Rreader and I have selected "Restore Last View Settings When Reopening Documents" to bookmark my documents and this works fine except for PDFs created with the dopdf printer which do not open on the last page I was on when I closed them, but always on the first. Why?

I have doPDF version 7.3.381 and it keeps crashing. When I try to print something (a document or a website) it gets part-way through the printing dialogues and then crashes. While the software is obviously still installed it removes itself from the "Printers and Devices" dialogue and shows my Samsung desktop laser printer as having a fault. The Samsung printer "fault" can't be corrected and the printer cannot be removed.

Uninstalling doPDF restores the Samsung printer to working fine (nothing else needs to be done).

I can repeat the problem by uninstalling doPDF, beboot the PC and everything is fine. Install doPDF and sometimes the first print works but sometimes not. However, the second print try simply fails again. This is quite frustrating, especially as this software has always been so reliable.

I have downloaded and installed Bullzip PDF Printer and that is working fine.

My system is running MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1 which is completely up-to-date. The hardware includes an AMD Phenom II X2 555 and 8.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 669MHz ram.

I have never had this problem before with earlier versions of doPDF.

I hope you can help.

Regards,

Hi,

We tried to print a word document with an image header on all pages and the print tests were successful. So we would need the exact document you have used for printing and got the issue to be able to troubleshoot this. IF possible, please send us the file along with information about the doPDF version and build you are using from the about page and the Windows OS version at support@novaPDF.com

Hi,

Unfortunately doPDF is not intended or optimized for re-converting PDF files so this is why you are getting these issues with the fonts and the drawing. The quality of the PDF drops when this sort of conversion is done.

I am using doPDF to save a copy of my textbooks provided online from my university. The PDF's are password protected so I am unlocking them and then printing them using doPDF so I can have an unlocked PDF that is viewable on my iPad.

Problem I am having is that I get lines or smudge lines on certain parts of the created PDF. Some of them are thick black lines that cover the text and others are lines that block the chapter or section number and title, the lines are always the same color as what it is blocking.

I there a way to prevent this from happening or is it something else? The lines are not there on the original PDF.

Thanks for your reply. I found a work around by reducing the density of one of the patterns used. Unfortunately I don't know how to send you a file. If I export the drawing as a jpg then doPDF will print the jpg. If I try to print using doPDF and check the box 'print to file' nothing happens. Any way I am all set at the moment. Thanks

The behavior is the same regardless of the way the text is pasted into the field (either browsing or pasting directly). You need to first click on the field where you want to paste the text into in order to make the window active and after that issue the paste command. Directly pasting without clicking on the name field freezes the window.

I need to clarify something. It seems I CAN paste directly into the doPDF Save PDF Dialog Box without freezing. The freeze happens if I click the Browse button in the doPDF Save PDF Dialog, and then try to Paste text into "that" Browse Dialog - Filename Box.

Have you been able to duplicate "this" behaviour, and is there a work-around?

I have been using doPDF for several months and it has worked great.
I have printed out a number of sheets from a CAD file but one does not print.
If I open up the doPDF printer window it shows it spooling but then the print job just disappears, it never says 'printing' and shows the file size.
If I eliminate some of the drawing on that sheet it will print, so I wonder if there is a maximum file size that doPDF will work with.
To estimate file size I exported three sheets as jpg and the two of these that worked as pdf. The file sizes are as
Sheet 1 (contains bit mapped images) jpg = .8 M pdf = 1.3 M
Sheet 2 (contains CAD drawing) jpg = 2 M pdf = 61 K
Sheet 3 (contains more CAD drawing) jpg = 3.6 M pdf = no
Any ideas

I reinstalled Adobe Reader again, with the same problem resulting. Since I have no idea how to search for registry records, I decided to install and try Foxit Reader. After loading Foxit and printing to PDF, Foxit launched automatically. I then went back to Control Panel/Programs/Default Programs/Set Associations and saw that the .PDF was now associated with "Foxit Reader Document." Since I still had Adobe Reader installed, I selected "Change Program" and selected Adobe Reader as the Current Default. The PDF Description changed from PDF File to Adobe Acrobat Document, just like you said it needed to in order to launch correctly. I then ran a test print and Adobe Reader launched correctly. Problem Solved!! Thank you for your assistance. Hopefully this procedure will assist other doPDF users.

Hi,

Unfortunately doPDF just prints whatever it receives from the source application. It does not manage the files in any other way.

Thank you.

Hi,

This is the same situation as the one described above. Adobe reader is not properly installed and related as the default application for opening pdf files, this is why you cannot open the document after converting it. One solution would be to keep reinstalling the Adobe Reader app until the file description shows Adobe Acrobat Document and not PDF File as it shows now. Another is to search for any registry records related to the pdf extension that may have been left over from a previous reader installation and remove those as it may conflict with the current PDF application.

I went to Control Panel/Default Programs/Set Associations per your instructions above. The extension .pdf has the description "PDF File", not "Adobe Acrobat Document". But the current default is Adobe Reader. I don't see anyway to change the description from PDF File to Adobe Acrobat Document.

One more thing that might assist. I'm using a brand new Toshiba laptop.

Thanks for continuing to search for a solution!

Hi everybody!
I registered just now, because I'm so happy I managed to solve my problem by following the 4 steps pointed out by Softland.

And I found the solution in the 4th step! Well, it is stunning, but YOU HAVE TO NAME THE PATH TO THE "wbem" FOLDER EXACTLY AS IT IS!!! This means it should be with the EXACT lower or UPPERCASE as the folder is.

My case was like most of the people having the problem - the software stopped showing in the Printers and Faxes and even installed I couldn't find it, so I reinstalled multiple times and manually deleted the above mentioned files, but none of this helped. The solution came in the last step!

Thank you Softland!

Thanks to everybody who have contributed for developing this awesome piece of software!

Is doPDF capable of adding 508 compliant tags when converting documents to PDF files? Example: If I use doPDF to convert a .doc file to PDF can the screen reader apps like JAWS read the file when users open it from a link on the web?

Hello,

We made multiple tests and all the PDF files were opened successfully. We had a situation like this some time ago and in that case, the PDF file format was setup in Windows to be opened by a different PDF reader rather than Adobe Reader. After that reader was uninstalled, somehow the format did not change the default application in Windows to Adobe Reader, so even if we had set it in doPDF to be opened after printing, it did not. So please check your PDF file extension properties in Windows and make sure that Adobe Reader is set as default application to open PDF files as that part may not work as expected on your PC. To do this you need to access Control Panel -> Programs -> Default Programs -> Set associations. Make sure the description is Adobe Acrobat Document and the default program is Adobe Reader.

Thank you.

I tried what you suggested. I completely uninstalled doPDF using the link you provided above. I went into the Windows/System/ folders and manually deleted the doPDF files you listed. I then downloaded and re-installed doPDF7. Pages print to PDF but Adobe Reader will not automatically launch. I have to launch Adober Reader manually.

Thank You
